The Security Industry is undergoing a period of major transformation driven by:

  • Changes in the types of threats it addresses
  • The increasing complexity and interdependency of the key networks services and infrastructure it protects
  • Advances in technologies available to it
  • Changes in the regulatory and commercial environment in which it operates.

These factors affect both suppliers and users of security equipment, technology and services. In this environment, there is considerable potential for research to support innovation within the Security Industry.

Main Objectives of Security KIN

Security KIN seeks to catalyse collaboration between representatives of the knowledge base and business in order to bring new innovation security solutions to market. It does this by:

  • Integrating and mobilising the Region's security industry
  • Linking regional security industry with the relevant regional knowledge base
  • Facilitating the Region's security industry and knowledge base to work together to develop innovative new products and services, taking advantage of UK Government, EU and other research funding opportunities

23 September 2008 - SITC Governance, Risk & Compliance Inaugural Event - The new SITC GRC SIG held its first event on the morning of 23 September 2008 at the HSBC Commercial Centre in Reading. Presentations covered the user requirements (effect), software tools to help companies manage risk (management)and software that actively manages particular aspects of security and compliance on the network (sensors). 23 September 2008 - European Security Partnering & Funding Event - The new SITC EU SIG held its first event on the afternoon of 23 September 2008 at the HSBC Commercial Centre in Reading. Presentations covered the current and future opportunities to form collaborations to bid for R&D funding under the EUs Seventh Framework Programme'>FP7 Security and ICT the themes, the advice and support services that are available, and plans to develop linkages with other EU regions with strong security industry clusters.
