Environmental Decision Support Network
Home → Knowledge Networks → Environmental Decision Support Network
EDSNet focuses on advances in a wide range of environmental decision support systems and the technologies which underpin their functionality. These depend on access to distributed data (eg from sensor networks) and a variety of data processing resources. Critical technologies include stochastic and deterministic models, advanced sensing systems, data fusion methodologies and man-machine interface systems.
Key application areas for EDSNet include:
- Crisis management
- Optimise response to crisis by advance warning of high risk events & real-time comparison of possible actions
- Provision of audit trail
- Environmental risk management
- Risk identification and minimisation of eco-system impacts, embedded within Environmental Management Systems for continuous improvement
- Support for mandatory risk assessments
- Compliance support
- Highlight major risks & liabilities of non-compliance, and benefits of compliance
- Support for marine spatial planning
These are growth markets, driven by tightening environmental standards and regulations, as well as by demographic trends and a growing political emphasis on environmental resource protection.
Main Objectives
- Facilitate collaborations (users, developers and technology/data providers) in priority application developments in environmental decision support.
- Provide a resource for development of proposals and other collaborative activities to develop novel products and services.
- Facilitate collaboration in key areas of underpinning knowledge.
- Provide a resource for development of research proposals and other collaborative activities to advance state of the art.
- Disseminate progress and maximise awareness of the above to key stakeholders (users, Government, SEEDA etc).
